Textron GSE Introduces TUG MTE Electric Cargo Tractor
Cartersville, GA ▬ Textron Ground Support Equipment Inc., a Textron Inc. (NYSE:TXT) company, introduces the TUG MT Electric (MTE) cargo tractor. The MTE is engineered to deliver the proven capability of the legacy TUG MT tractor with a high-performance electric powertrain, ready to handle the most demanding ground support operations sustainably and efficiently.
For more than 20 years, the TUG MT has been a proven performer for its dual uses as a large cargo tractor and regional jet pushback. Driven by customer requests to electrify the already reliable MT, the TUG MTE updates the legacy MT chassis with a 400-volt electric drivetrain. This upgrade reduces maintenance requirements, vehicle noise, fleet emissions, and operating costs, while maintaining the MT’s trusted durability and capability.
The TUG MTE maintains several familiar components of the MT’s build, including its rugged steel frame, power steering, and four-wheel suspension. Operators will experience a familiar drive and feel on the electric vehicle, which maneuvers easily even in busy or harsh environments.
A 400-volt electric traction motor powers the MTE’s 102 kW liquid-cooled battery pack, which together maximize uptime. Both dual 80-volt and LVL 2 charging ports are standard to the MTE, and LVL 3 HV charging is an available option. This flexible design makes the MTE compatible with existing charging infrastructure while also supporting future charging requirements, empowering customers to electrify their operation quickly and effectively.
With a top speed of 20 mph, the TUG MTE can tow up to 120,000 lbs. with a 10,000 lb. drawbar pull. It can move aircraft of weights up to 140,000 lbs., including regional aircraft up to the ERJ195.
Standard safety features include retractable seat belts and electronic parking brakes. Customers can select optional features like a heating and cooling system, suspension seats, rear window guards, and a flash beacon to maximize safety and comfort for operators.
“Textron GSE is committed to delivering electrified equipment without compromise, and the TUG MTE is the latest example of our success,” said Tony LaCorte, Vice President and General Manager, Textron GSE. “The TUG MTE delivers the proven performance, durability, reliability and versatility of the TUG MT platform, with an electric powertrain that is more cost-effective to operate and reduces noise and emissions. In short, it’s what our customers have been asking for, and we’re pleased to deliver it to them.”
The TUG MTE will make its public debut at the GSE Expo Europe in Lisbon, Portugal, Sept. 15-17 at booth I13. Parties interested in purchasing can ask a sales representative for a quote or demonstration. Deliveries will begin in 2027.
